Incorporating Active Aging Into Your Day

Family and professional caregivers play a vital role in enabling active aging. Encouragement, patience, and adaptive support help individuals participate in meaningful routines. When caregivers provide opportunities for engagement rather than simply completing tasks, they help preserve dignity and identity. Active aging with dementia is not about denying the changes that come with the disease; it is about recognizing and supporting what remains strong: the capacity for connection, creativity, and meaning.

Music is an Important Caregiving Tool

As part of ongoing efforts to support local caregivers in accessing the free resources they need to provide the best care, St. John’s partnered with Lifespan of Greater Rochester and Nazareth University once again for a special two-day caregiver event that celebrated the connecting joy of music and clinically proven benefits of musical therapy.  Nazareth University Music Therapy Program Director and Professor Laurie Keogh gave a presentation on the science of music therapy and the cultural power of music.
